How many times have you heard, “Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life”?
When I was young, it went in one ear and out the other. I worked to make money, to provide for my son because I was a single mother after his dad died. I needed to work, whether I loved it or not! Years later when I quit working to be as stress free as possible when my husband and I were going through IVF, I wondered what I would go back too after that journey was over. IVF gave us girl/boy twins, whoa! What was I going to do now? How could I go back to work with two babies to take care of and very little family close by to help? I had no choice but to stay home with them. After time passed, I needed adult interaction, I needed to get away from diapers and crying. I thought what can I possibly do that is flexible and will make me money? I researched work from home jobs, I looked into working part-time, the problem was my husbands very demanding job and stupid crazy hours he worked. Nothing I could find worked with his schedule. I found Direct Sales and I leaped! I took on a clothing company for kids first. It was great! I spent way more money than I ever made because I was buying it all for my little people McNuggets! But it was fun! I was doing a couple of home parties every month, seeing friends, dressing my kids in adorable clothes, it was fun. But I needed more.
One day out of the blue, I decided, “oh I love those bags, I should sell them!” and “Oh my goodness, I spend so much money on this wax for these warmers, I should sell it!”. On that day, I joined not one but TWO companies to sell their products. Made sense that I was already spending money with the companies, why not put money back in my own pocket, right? Business was great! I did very well for about a year with both. Then it got hard. Friends were telling me, “My husband said if I bring one more bag in this house….” and “He told me to use my stash of wax instead of buying new and that we don’t need any more warmers.”. In the meantime, I had been invited twice to a Perfectly Posh party, both times I couldn’t make it because of my husband’s job. I did order though, because I love products! I was very active on Facebook with my other two businesses and because I was struggling with my local friends, I was in a few consultant of the month groups. I had to buy from them, they had to buy from me. It wasn’t really making me any money because I was spending, but I was staying active in both companies. I found myself ordering 4 months in a row from Posh parties. That’s when it hit me, what the hell are you doing?! Join! Make that money back on the stuff you are already buying!
In July 2014, I was a consultant for THREE companies! No joke. What was I doing? I dunno, I knew it would work out somehow. I tend to make a decision about something and just do it. If I give something too much thought, I will talk myself out of it.
My Posh biz boomed from Day 1! Every one takes a bath, everyone SHOULD be using lotion, this little soap and lotion business was exactly what I needed. Days turn to months and I’m fully invested in this business. To the point that I resigned from the other two and was strictly working my Posh biz. It became my passion. Something I never felt with any other business I tried my hand at. This was where I was supposed to be, this is what I was supposed to be doing. I was comfortable talking in front of people, I was comfortable sharing the business opportunity with strangers, something I NEVER did before.
Going into my third year as a consultant and my business has never been better. I have earned incentives, I have earned awards, I have traveled to cities I have never been. I have met women who I am so thankful to call friends, some of these ladies know more about me and my life than friends I have known for 20 years! It’s comfortable. It’s where I am supposed to be and not one single day feels like “work”. I’m passionate about healthy skin care. I’m passionate about sharing nothing but the best with my friends and family. I’m passionate about meeting new people and building relationships with them. I’m passionate about the company and the business model. Most of all, I love what I do and I make money doing it. I finally know what “Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life” means and I can honestly say, I found my passion.
If you are not doing it with passion, you shouldn’t be doing it. If it feels like work, it IS work and is no fun. Find your niche, find what feels good and stick it out. Days are not always easy but when there are more good days than bad, you’re on the right track. Direct Sales and Social Selling is not for everyone, sometimes all it takes is a change in companies, find what feels good and go all in!
